PNG CHAMBER OF MINES AND PETROLEUM SUPPORTS EDUCATION PARTNERSHIP WITH UNIVERSITIES 17 Mar 2013

The PNG Chamber of Mines and Petroleum are currently managing and implementing a tertiary partnership program in support of the Department of Mining Engineering at the University of Technology in Lae, and at the Earth Sciences Division at the University of Papua New Guinea. The Program is a partnership between the Chamber and AusAID with a funding of a $1 million grant, that's dedicated to boosting the capability and resources of the two faculties which supply key professionals for the resource industry. The PNG Chamber of Mines and Petroleum states that the grant provides support for a portfolio of specific programs which include; short term visiting lectures; technical officer training; maintenance and purchase of new laboratory and teaching equipment amongst others. AusAID is providing bulk of the funding, whilst the Chamber has made a cash counterpart contribution and is meeting the cost of a project officer as well as over heads associated with managing, administering and implementing the entire program. This is in addition to the K150, 000 the Chamber provided to each faculty in 2009-2010.
