ALLUVIAL MINING SECTOR NEEDS TO GO INTO MECHANIZED MINING

WITH over 200,000 alluvial miners in the mining Sector around the country the Sector needs to go into Mechanized Mining.

This call was made by Mineral Resources Authority (MRA) Manager of Wau Small Scale Mining Training Center Andrew Onguglo during his presentation at the PNG Resources Week Day 2 Program.

Mr. Onguglo said out of the 200,000 plus Alluvial miners in the country MRA has issued 641 tenements which means only certain parts of the country are legally Mining as Alluvial miners.

He says the sector has seen a drop in gold production over the years to improve this there should be a shift in the mining techniques from standard to mechanized.

He also says there should be an increase in regulation and compliance efforts with appropriate policy and legislative amendments for the Alluvial Mining industry.
