THE Inaugural PNG Resources Week hosted by the PNG Chamber of Resources and Energy (PNG CORE) is currently underway at the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG).
The four-day event will incorporate the Community Affairs and National Content Conference and Expo (CANCONEX), PNG Resources Career Fair, PNG Resources Summit, and ending it off with the PNG Resources Week Gala Dinner.
The Prime Minister James Marape officially opened the Summit with his keynote address.
PM Marape called on the Mining and Energy Sector to take his people with them.
Marape explained that the resource companies operating in the resource areas around the country must involve landowners in their operations as this will be an integral part of development.
He says the Mining and Energy sector in the country has been around for over a hundred years with the first gold mined in Bulolo in Morobe Province.
He says the sector has contributed to the development of the country in terms of nation building with 80 percent of the revenue collected from this industry.
Meanwhile, PNGCORE President Anthony Smare thanked the Prime Minister for accepting the invitation and officially opening the Summit.
