PPL WORKING WITH WATER PNG TO RESOLVE WATER LANDOWNER ISSUES
By Nigel Mado
TALKS with the Landowners regarding the shutting down of both the Rouna 1/3 and Rouna 4 Hydropower stations will continue today after water was restored to the city at 10:30 pm last night.
PNG Power Limited [PPL] Chief Executive Officer, Nehemiah Naris told FM100 Newsroom that although this closure of both stations does not affect PPL directly, they are working to sort out the issue with their sister Utility company, Water PNG.
Mr. Naris said the closure had come about after the local landowner group, the Omani had petitioned to both utilities, citing environmental damage and other issues.
The CEO said due to this reason, both stations were forcefully shut down, affecting water supply to the city.
Yesterday, after long deliberations between all 3 entities, Mr. Naris said the Landowners agreed to open both stations.
Today, however, more talks will be held with the landowners to ensure service can continue without disruptions.
Water PNG Earlier today released a statement advising the public that water has been restored and urged the public to report if they are experiencing issues with water supply to their area.
