WOMENS REP TEAMS FOCUS ON TEAM SPIRIT & FAMILY

For the Capital Rugby Union (CRU) Hanenamos and Magias, rugby is more than just a game! It’s a way to bond as a team and represent their families.
Magias Assistant Coach Ted Parker Tau-Loi emphasizes that, for many players, the motivation goes beyond financial incentives.
“There isn’t a great deal of welfare in it,” said Tau-Loi when speaking to FM100 Sports.
“I encourage most of the girls to go out there, have fun, and do it for their families & loved ones.”
The upcoming representative matches serve as a special opportunity for players to come together, not just as athletes but as family. Tau-Loi encourages the women to focus on the experience of playing alongside their “sisters” and representing their communities.
While the players may not be professionals, their talent and determination remain strong. With many already having represented PNG at national levels, bonds formed through rugby are what drive these women to succeed.
“The talent is big in this group,” said Tau-Loi. “But it’s about more than that, it’s about playing for each other.”
