The Morobe Provincial Government has allocated nearly K548,000 to support the Correctional Services (CS) in Lae, as announced by the Provincial Administrator Max Bruten at Buimo Correctional Institute in Lae.

The funds are directed toward key maintenance projects and facility improvements aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of both officers and inmates.

Bruten highlighted the specifics of the allocation, which includes K47,000 for safety improvements, K188,000 for mattresses, K43,000 for inmate quarters, and K21,636 for residential upgrades.

The total investment underscores the provincial government’s commitment to supporting CS officers and addressing needs that have previously been overlooked.

“In the past, Correctional Services may have felt neglected, but the Morobe Provincial Government recognizes your needs and stands by you,” Bruten said. “We believe these investments will go a long way in creating a safe, supportive environment for both staff and inmates.”

The financial commitment aligns with Morobe’s broader initiative to foster security and stability across key government agencies, marking a turning point in how the Correctional Services are supported at a provincial level.

Meantime, Mr Bruten has affirmed the government’s support for national law and order policies by pledging continued backing for the Correctional Services, including Defense, Education, and Health.

“The Morobe Provincial Government supports national agencies, even though you operate at a sub-national level. We believe in working together rather than in isolation,” Bruten stated.

This provincial support marks a shift toward integrated efforts to bolster services and improve community safety.

The Morobe administration, working in alignment with Governor Anuta Ainsahuege and Lae MP and Deputy Prime Minister John Rosso, is emphasizing a cooperative approach that recognizes the significance of each sector’s role in enhancing quality of life and security within Lae and the surrounding region.

“Our commitment is not only to Correctional Services but to all sectors that contribute to a safe, harmonious community,” Bruten remarked.

“This approach reflects our belief in collaboration across all levels of government to address the needs of our people more effectively.”
