NCD COMMAND SET POLICE BAIL RATES
The National Capital District Police Command authorities have set stricter police bail rates and police will not hesitate to arrest street vendors, those in possession of offensive weapons, drivers using or holding when driving, domestic violence and ethnic clashes in the city.
The police bail rates are set as; for ethnic clashes the bail is set as K10 000 police bail, alcohol-related offence is K5 000, domestic violence is K2000, carrying of offensive weapons is K10 000, street vending is K5 000 and using a phone while driving is K5 000 police bail.
This is according to National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang, when also clarifying that the penalties apply to the general public, including police officers.
Superintendent Rubiang says, so far there had been some improvements in the city and this is a good sign that people are adhering notices issued.
He said police are moving around observing locations where street vendors are still selling and trading.
The police will come in numbers to arrest those who are selling or are loitering at non-designated marketplaces.
Supt Rubiang further added thast people are not congregating around and this is reflected in the current state of the cleanliness in the city, and this must be maintained.
Meantime, the Commander of National Capital District and Central province, ACP Benjamin Turi had called on all police officers to assist the acting NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang to make sure the city is clean and safe for all.
According to National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang, fewer crimes were reported during the weekend in and around Port Moresby.
He said this was based on the police reports he had received through police reporting channels.
He said the city also looks clean, especially at the traffic lights, bus stops and public areas where people usually do street sales.
He said the awareness programs, has resulted in some positive impacts on everyday people activities.
So far, police officers have done a tremendous job under his leadership.
