DJ DIRTY FINGERS STOKED TO BE PART OF COKE STUDIO SEASON 6
By Nigel MADO, Port Moresby
From spinning records in the early 2000s Brandon Chan, known by his stage name DJ Dirty Fingers, has come a long way in his music career. Starting as a DJ in 2008, it wasn’t until 2015 that he had his first big break, and now he’s ready to share his journey with fans in a new way.
As part of the highly anticipated Season 6 of Coke Studio PNG, Chan will be remixing last season’s epic track, “Be Yourself” by Jnr Vigi, Shei, Kronos, Danielle, Mal Meninga Kuri, Tonton Malele.
All season 5 Artists.
As part of Coke Studio, Chan will bring his signature “bouncy island vibes” to a larger audience than ever before. While it’s his first time stepping into such a visible role, Chan is grateful for the opportunity to showcase his years of hard work and his unique musical style.
“For a long time, I was just the guy behind the decks, but music has always been my passion,” Chan said. “It’s amazing to see my work recognised on such a huge platform.”
For Chan, the transition from DJing to singing was no easy feat, and social media only made things harder. But the artist has never let critics change his style.
As a musician rooted in island vibes and upbeat rhythms, Chan’s unique style has faced its share of judgment, especially online. Despite the noise, Dirty Fingershe has built a loyal fan base that values his authenticity.
He credits them with giving him the courage to experiment with his sound, saying, “My fans let me be myself, and that’s the best part.”
Fame hasn’t changed Chan. The DJ-turned-singer has toured internationally, but his family remains unimpressed, and he wouldn’t have it any other way.
On returning from an Australian tour, he was quickly reminded of his family’s no-nonsense attitude.
“I got back, and my grandma was like, ‘Where did you go?’” he laughed. Chan’s father, one of his biggest supporters, has always encouraged him to pursue his passion, but with one condition: “If you want to do this, you need to put 100% into it,” his father told him.
