By Martha LOUISE, Lae
LAE Police have issued a warning after discovering battery acid being sold in Lae City shops in 500ml containers. The acid, often displayed like regular products, is hazardous and can cause serious health issues or even death if misused.
Acting Lae Metsup, Chief Inspector James Luan urged residents to report any shops selling the acid, emphasizing the importance of public safety. “If you see this product being sold, report it immediately so we can confiscate it,” he said.
According to reports, two shop owners have been questioned, and further inspections are planned to ensure compliance with the law.
We’ve been monitoring the situation and have identified several shops involved,” said a source. “Selling battery acid as though it’s bottled water is illegal.” Officials have reported the issue to the Lae City Authority Health Division for further investigation.
