WALEMO BABUAF WOMEN’S ASSOCIATION HAPPY WITH CREDIT SCHEME

Women from the Walemo Babuaf Womens Association in the Morobe province are happy that funding is now made available specifically for women and they plan to open up a bakery in the village.
Wafi Golpu Joint Venture and the Mineral Resources Authority recently launched a credit scheme for the women from communities in the Special Mining Lease 10 area, the pipeline and outfall areas to assist them financially with their small businesses.
Walemo Babuaf Womens Association President Linda Ipang says over the years, women have struggled financially.
She says the women have been given life-skills training organized by the company but there has been very little support to put the life-skills training into small businesses, however she has thanked the Babuaf Landowners association, for always supporting the women in the four village communities in the Babuaf area.
She says the women folk since receiving training have gone into baking full time producing scones, cookies and bread.
Mrs Ipang says now with the credit scheme in place, they are aspiring to open up a bakery in their village.
