THE Police operation Center at Boroko police station was re-opened yesterday by the Commander of National Captial District and Central Provinces acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Benjamin Turi.

The police operation centre had been relocated to Konedobu for almost four years after the police management decided to do renovation.

Commander Turi, urged the officers who will be operating the centre to attend to calls from the public and disseminate and dispatch to police units.

The police toll-free number that the public is encouraged to call for police assistance is 1800100.

He said the operation centre is the heart of police operations in the city because it receives information and disseminates information to both the victim and the police.

He said he understands the manpower problem the section is facing, and that is a management issue that they will look into to recruit more operations.

A representative from the Papua New Guinea -Australian Policing Partnership (PNG-APP) program Detective Superintendent Conard Jensen was also pleased with the program saying that the office will help policing in National Capital District and Central Provinces easier because the public and the police will be interacting to share information to help policing.

He said the setup of the office is of high standard, which will help the officers interact better with the public.

National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Silva Sika also thanked the PNG-APP officers who had assisted in completing the project that would be used by the police officers.

He said he will be monitoring the operation centre to make sure that officers must always monitor the operation centre and attend to all calls to report crimes or disperse police officers to crime scenes.

He said opening is timely, and as the operation centre commences, it will help all.
