Catholic Education Secretary(CES) Mr. Kevin Joseph recently outlined key changes to the school system for the upcoming year, following the introduction of the Standard-Based Curriculum (SBC).
“The new structure will consist of one year of preprimary education, six years of primary education, and six years of secondary education, commonly referred to as the “1-6-6″ system,”
Mr Kevin Joseph made the announcement during the 26th graduation ceremony at St. Montfort’s Primary School in Kiunga on Wednesday, last week.
He emphasized the importance of parents knowing these changes and encouraged them to embrace the new system with an open mind.
Mr. Joseph reminded everyone that education plays a vital role in unlocking potential and shaping the future.
“I also want to announce that by year 2026, St. Montfort Primary School will be one of the institutions transitioning to a junior high school” said Joseph
He also appealed to the students to take care of themselves during the holidays and return to school safely for the start of the academic year.
These changes are inline with the government’s goal to ensure that no child is left behind, offering equal opportunities for all students.
