Police in the National Capital District & Central province have launched their festive period operations. Code named ‘Operation Silver, Christmas & New Year’, the operations were launched during the Commander’s Parade hosted at the Unagi Oval in Port Moresby.

These operation orders will take effect, starting today, Friday, the 13th of December 2024 and will run through to January 2025, within the nation’s capital as well as Central.

In a joint operation that will be conducted by the NCD and Central Divisional Command, the Metropolitan Superintendent Chief Inspector Silva Sika handed over the Operation Orders manual to Divisional Commander of NCD/Central, Chief Superintendent Benjamin Turi, who will personally be taking charge.

Chief Supt Turi said he is expected to see his men and women to perform their duties and provide that much needed environment and atmosphere that is free and safe for everyone to celebrate the Christmas and New year.

“I expect you all to perform to the best of your abilities in this festive period,” Operations Commander Chief Insp Turi said.

“We have to show the public and the communities in the city and Central, that we can do it and that is to restore the lost pride of the force. I also want to see the communities and citizens to cooperate with these operations for a better and safe place for everyone to celebrate the festive period.”

Met Supt Chief Insp Sika also urged all members of the force to carry out their duties in due diligence and not to involve in any illicit deals that will tarnish the reputation of the force, as well as theirs in these operations.
