By Nigel MADO
The Government has been called to take responsibility of the recent killings that occurred in the Goilala District, adding that the brutal murder must not go unpunished.
Opposition Leader and Kiriwina-Goodenough MP, Douglas Tomuriesa yesterday called for justice for the victim brutally killed and dismembered at the hands of a number of youths in Goilala. Tomuriesa on behalf of the Opposition, conveyed their sincerest condolences to the family of the deceased and was appalled by the graphic images in circulation on social media.
“I thought we had already done away with the act cannibalism years ago, but this does not seem the case, he said.”
He said the act of barbarism witnessed in the images and video do not personify Papua New Guinea’s journey as a nation about to reach 50 years of independence. Speaking to this newsroom, he called on the Government to prioritize the apprehension of the suspects for them to face the full brunt of the law.
The Opposition leader went on to state that police need to establish the particulars of the incident in order put to rest rumors circulating regarding the killing.
The killing of a man in the Goilala District of Central Province was rumored to have occurred some time after new year, the images and video of the killing showcase a group of youth triumphantly parading the dismembered limbs of the victim.
Earlier yesterday, Central Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Chief Inspector Joseph Salle in an interview with FM100 Newsroom has confirmed that central police are yet to arrest the suspects of the barbaric killings due to lack of funding to carry out this operation.
PPC Salle said his police officers are ready to conduct investigations and effect arrests however, they are still awaiting the Police Headquarters to release funds to carry out this operation.
