GOVERNMENT CALLED ON TO PRIORITIZE FUNDING FOR LLG ELECTIONS
By Paul PETRUS
A councilor in the Mt. Hagen Rural LLG of Western Highlands Province is calling on the National Government to be very serious in funding and conducting the election of local level governments (LLGs) in the country.
In acknowledging the new dates set for the LLG elections, the councilor who did not want to be named, told FM 100 news that the postponing of LLG elections is a slap on the face of the ward councilors.
He said LLG Presidents are on the ground daily working with the people without any funding from the government and yet the national government is not prioritizing the LLGs is a major concern.
The third term ward councilor stressed, that if the national government is serious about taking back PNG after nearly 50 years, they must seriously focus on the LLGs and provide sufficient funding at the ward levels.
