PROPOSED HIGHLANDS FISHERIES COLLEGE TO BE CONNECTED BY ELECTRICITY
By Mortimer YANGHARRY
Construction of the multi million kina Highlands Fisheries College in Wabag District will soon begin after electricity is connected into the area as it is a technical requirement for an impact project of high magnitude.
The Wabag District Development Authority (WDDA) has engaged a private electrical contractor last year to connect electricity into Yokota village where the impact project will be constructed.
Line stringing was already completed from the main PNG Power grid near Birip along the Highlands Highway covering several kilometers before reaching Yokota village in the Wabag Rural LLG bordering the Wapenamanda District.
The main transformer was mounted last week and necessary electrical inspection and certification will be carried out accordingly before electricity is accessible to the area.
The WDDA under the chairmanship of Wabag Open MP Hon.Dr Lino Tom first built a road into the area joining the main Highlands Highway in preparation for other government services to reach the area.
With the road access, the Yokota Health Center was built last year and the construction of the Highlands Fisheries College will begin this year.
The Yokota Health Center will be connected to electricity supply along with other village houses and churches in the area once power is turned on after all technical formalities are finalized.
