ESP GOVERNOR RECOUNTS EXPERIENCE WITH SIR JULIUS

By Nigel MADO
East Sepik Governor, Allan Bird has spoken highly of the Late Rt. Hon. Sir Julius Chan and how much of an immense figure he was not only to the people of New Ireland, but also to that of the Greater Sepik, and the people of Papua New Guinea.
Speaking to the family of the late founding father & the people of Manmantinut, the Governor recounted the moments that was spent with Sir Julius, adding that Sir Julius shared similar traits with his brother and fellow founding father, the Late Grand Chief, Sir Michael Somare.
Describing the friendship of both highly respected public servants, he stated that it was likened to that of a captain and his first captain, or a Capenter and the architect, stating that Sir Julius was the Technocrat to the Grand Chief.
Governor Bird explained that for both founding fathers were visionaries, they wished that they be buried in their home provinces, so that later through the annals of time, their Children, the people of Papua New Guinea would travel to the provinces to visit their founding fathers in their home provinces.
The Governor thanked Prime Minister James Marape and the Cabinet, for honouring the wishes of the Late Sir Julius to be laid to rest at his home of Manmantinut, and that of Grand Chief Sir Michael, to be buried in the land of their birth.
He said Sir Julius had served in the Parliament longer than anyone else in the history of Papua New Guinea, and his vision, shared with those closest to him in the likes of his great friend, Dr. John Momis, he understood every nook and cranny of service delivery and worked to better the nation.
He will be sorely missed by the people of PNG.
