A senior medical doctor in Madang, Dr. Jimmy Aipit, has alleged a violent attack by a rogue police officer, who he claims was under the influence of alcohol last night.

Dr. Aipit stated that the officer physically assaulted his son, at the gate of Kalibobo House, nearly severing his neck. Upon learning of the incident, he took his son to Jomba Police Station to lodge a formal complaint.

However, he alleges that, the same officer returned with a group of friends, forcefully entered his premises, and began attacking his children, family members, and other residents in the area.

“I went outside, and he and his friends started attacking me with knives, iron plates, and other objects,” Dr. Aipit said, adding that multiple people, including himself, sustained injuries.

About 30 minutes later, he and his family returned to the police station to file another complaint. While waiting, the officer allegedly arrived in uniform, armed with a firearm, and resumed his assault, pointing a gun at Dr. Aipit and his children while threatening to shoot him.

Dr. Aipit maintains that his son did not provoke the officer or his intoxicated associates in any way. He has since informed the Provincial Police Commander (PPC) and the Police Station Commander (PSC) via text messages.

He expressed grave concerns for his family’s safety, saying they are now living in fear due to continued threats.

Meanwhile, Madang Provincial Police Commander Acting Superintendent Robert Baim said the issue has been addressed accordingly.

Following the incident, doctors and nurses at the Madang Provincial Hospital have gathered at the hospital premises, expressing concern over the attack on their colleague and calling for action to ensure their safety.

Meanwhile, Madang Provincial Police Commander, Acting Superintendent Robert Baim has confirmed that the officer involved was arrested.
