MANNING CONDEMNS CRIMINAL ACTIONS OF ROGUE MEMBER|INVESTIGATIONS UNDERWAY

Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary Commissioner, David Manning has condemned the actions of the police officer verbally assaulting a resident Doctor in Madang, following a video of the incident going viral on social media this morning.
In a statement released the commissioner stated that he was aware of a video circulating of an incident in Madang last night involving police members and the threatening use of firearms against civilians.
Manning said he was sickened by such criminal and unprofessional behaviour, particularly involving the handling of a firearm. The offending member has been arrested and is in custody, and the commanding officers of the units involved are now under investigation.
He said this type of behaviour is unacceptable and is contrary to the values and principles of the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary.
“We are here to serve and protect the people of Papua New Guinea, not to harm or intimidate them.”
“I want to reassure the public that this matter will be dealt with swiftly and decisively. We will ensure that justice is served, and those responsible will face the full force of the law.”
He said the role of the police officers is critical to the safety and well-being of the communities, and there is no place for rogue members within the force.
