MAN FOUND DEAD IN BUNABUN VILLAGE; POLICE INVESTIGATE MURDER

Police in Madang Province are investigating the suspected murder of a man whose body was found washed ashore at Bunabun Village in Sumkar District on Saturday, February 8, 2025.
The deceased has been identified as Michael Ururubia, a resident of Boakure Village in Yabu LLG, Bogia District. He was last seen on Friday, February 7, when he left the Mangem Care Centre to go fishing along the nearby shore. According to police reports, Ururubia was allegedly attacked by unknown assailants using harmful objects, which left scars and swollen marks on his body.
Madang Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Acting Superintendent Robert Baim, confirmed the incident and stated that local villagers discovered Ururubia’s body along the shore.
Authorities responded to the scene, retrieving the body and transported it to Madang Hospital, where it now lies in the mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Baim further stated that a formal report was received and registered at the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) office. “The suspects remain unidentified at this stage, but police investigations are ongoing to determine the individuals responsible for the attack,” he said.
The crime, classified as wilful murder, was reported by the deceased’s uncle, Steven Danam. The attack involved harmful objects that caused visible injuries on the victim.
Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation. Meanwhile, police continue to monitor the situation as they work to identify and apprehend those responsible.
