CALL FOR BORDER SECURITY SET UP IN SHP/GULF

CENTRAL Governor, Hon Rufina Peter has called on the national government to set up a border facility long the mountainous terrain border between Southern Highlands Province the lowland areas of the Gulf Province.
The Governor said since she took office, she has requested the national government to provide a socio-economic report on the Connect PNG program, until now she has not received a report as yet.
She acknowledged that while the connect PNG Program is a critical project for the development of the country, without the socio-economic report, there are no clear indications of the advantages and the disadvantages of the project.
Being the governor for Central Province, with the interest of the Central people at heart, the governor has reiterated the importance of establishing a border facility at the border between the Southern Highlands Province and the Gulf Province.
“With concurrence with my brother governor for Gulf, we want to move this facility to the border between Gulf and Southern Highlands Province and we want the national government to stop connecting the 20 kilometres that is left and pay attention to building the border facility, it is not only in the interest of the Southern region Provinces but it is in the interest of the country” said governor Peter
The Central Governor said the Central Provincial Executive Council has captured the feasibility studies of the border facility as one of the priority projects but has urged the national government to stop the connect the PNG program through the Southern Highlands Province and the Gulf and to prioritise the construction of the border facility.
The governor has called for the establishment of the border facility due to the increase in law and orders issues especially in the highland’s region, the border facility will be designed to efficiently process movement and the smuggling of weapons from the capital city to the Highlands region.
