SHPG LEADERS APPEAL FOR PEACE & UNDERSTANDING

THE Southern Highlands Provincial Government leaders led by Governor William Powi who made a public appeal for peace and understanding when addressing the 351 reserve police graduation in Mendi.

The call came after the tragic killings of two police officers in the Upper Mendi, SHP, and the recent road accident in Western Highlands province involving a vehicle belonging to the SHP Government.

Some prominent leaders also supported the call, Hon. Pila Ninigi, Minister for Attorney General, Hon. Raphael Tonpi, Vice Minister for State Enterprises, and other key officials.

In response to the killings of policemen in Upper Mendi, the Provincial Police Commander (PPC) SHP has taken swift action, locking up three suspects, with the community’s cooperation, and securing firearms.

Governor Powi was alongside the Member for Mendi, has consulted with the Member for Goroka, Hon. AIYA Tambua, to offer condolences and contributions to the families in Port Moresby.

Furthermore, the President for Upper Mendi has called for customary peace initiatives with the relatives of the fallen officers from Eastern Highlands and Hela.

Governor Powi emphasized that the SHP Government stands with the people who have taken it upon themselves to seek justice through both legal and customary means and the government encourages communities to take the lead in initiating customary peace.

Meanwhile, Governor Powi further appealed to the mourning families to refrain from engaging in illegal roadblocks or other unlawful acts, as such actions only cause more pain and suffering to innocent individuals and escalate criminal activities.

The SHP leadership calls for meaningful dialogue and peaceful resolution, urging families to come together for healing and reconciliation.
