THE Eastern Highlands Provincial Health Authority has now recruited specialist medical doctors that will help improve better health care services at the Hospital in Goroka for the people of Eastern Highlands province and the country through referrals.
Eastern Highlands Provincial Health Authority Acting CEO Dr. Pomuso Warima, said they are now doing minor restructuring to create more space to accommodate more Doctors and specialist nurses to serve in the province by offering a better package to attract them.
He said the EHPHA has a total of 27 Specialist Doctors now with the inclusion of seven new ones, of which three were Registrars Sponsored by the Provincial Health Authority to do master’s in medicine and now rejoining after completing their training, and four were recruited and currently serving at the Goroka Hospital.
Dr Warima said since taking up the office as the acting CEO, he aims to leave no stone unturned in-service delivery and to improve the hospital services.
He added that the hospital will now be planning to go into doing three shifts per day at the Emergency Department after recruiting a second emergency physician soon to serve the emergency cases and referrals to the Emergency Department.
Dr Warima said his management looks at improving the health service in the province in line with the National Government Medium Term Development Plan 4 and the National Health Plan, making specialist Health services available, affordable and accessible to every citizen in the province by making referrals to other centers to seek medical treatment will become a thing of the past.
He also extended his appreciation to the local MPs and their DDA who have come forward to partner with EHPHA in the delivery of health services in their respective districts to see new infrastructure development and the rehabilitation of the years of neglected rundown health infrastructures.
