NIP CHIEF’s CONDUCT APPRECIATION CEREMONY

ASSISTANT Speaker of Parliament Kansol Kamdaru, MP accompanied by the Clerk of Parliament Kala Aufa and Deputy Clerk – Chamber Services Basil Kambuliagen were honoured as custodians of the House of Parliament by chiefs from the New Ireland Province, who led a cultural ceremony called “Washdown of Footprints” for the Late GC Rt. Hon. Sir Julius Chan at Parliament House yesterday afternoon.

They were amongst other Members of Parliament (MPs) including the Prime Minister James Marape, MP and Opposition Leader Douglas Hon. Douglas Tomuriesa, MP who were present to witness the appreciation ceremony which concluded funeral obligations of Late Sir Julius.

A reception was also held at the State Function Room afterwards where Assistant Speaker Hon. Kamdaru formally welcomed the visiting delegation followed by presentation of gifts and speeches by NIP Acting Governor Hon. Sammy Missen, MPA and other MPs.

Yesterday was also the first time for Parliament to sit this year since rising after the November/December session last year. The afternoon’s session was dedicated to MPs paying their tributes and conveying their condolence messages on the passing of Late Sir Julius.
