ABAU MP QUESTIONS TIME FRAME AND BUDGET FOR LLG ELECTIONS

There are 5 weeks left until the Local Level Government (LLG) Elections; a time frame that has drawn concern and questions from the Abau MP Sir Puka Temu.

Sir Puka acknowledged that there is over K100 million allocated in the budget for the upcoming LLG Elections however, he understands that K90 million worth of cheques that are yet to be approved and time is running out.

In a question without notice, during Friday 14th March 2025 Parliament Sitting, the Abau MP asked the Provincial and Local Level Government Affairs Minister when these K90 million worth of cheques will be cleared and released to the Electoral Commission to hold the LLG Elections.

Sir Puka said the LLG Elections, Issue of Writs will take place on the 24th of April 2025 and asked if the government is really prepared to carry it out.

Provincial and Local Level Government Affairs Minister Soroi Eoe acknowledged the importance of the question raised by the Abau MP, saying that this is a critical issue that everyone should be mindful of with the upcoming LLG Elections.

He stated that the government, after consulting with the Electoral Commission, is confident in its ability to conduct the LLG Elections. He also confirmed that K180 million has been allocated to support this effort.
