The Assmambu community at Lae’s back road hosted a ceremony last weekend to renew efforts against crime and promote unity. Lae Police Chief Inspector James Luan and local residents attended the event.

The ceremony highlighted the community’s commitment to improving local leadership and collaborating with the newly appointed Assmambu Chairman and Ward 12 Councilor. The Lae District Peace & Good Order Committees (LDPGOC) also pledged support for enhancing security in the area.

LDPGOC Chairman Yaxs Tugula stressed the importance of community participation in ensuring a safer environment.

“Despite past challenges, we have a chance to work together and change Assmambu’s image. Everyone must play their part in reporting crime and promoting peace,” said Tugula.

Chief Inspector James Luan emphasized that improving safety requires teamwork between law enforcement and the community.

“Making Assmambu and Back Road safer is not just the police’s job. We all need to cooperate and work together to combat crime,” Luan said.

A spokesperson from the community urged the new Chairman to implement plans to eliminate Assmambu’s crime reputation. The event ended with a commitment to change mindsets and set a positive example for younger generations.

Ahi LLG Ward 10 Councillor Wenti Mineva also highlighted the need for By-Laws between Assmambu and local landowners.

“Anyone who breaks the By-Laws will be evicted from Lae City. Those who cannot live peacefully will be sent back to their home areas,” Mineva warned.
