JIWAKA GOVENOR MAKES PUBLIC APOLOGY TO WOMEN IN THE COUNTRY

ON Tuesday 19th March, the Governor for National Capital District Commission (NCDC) and the chairman of the Permanent Parliamentary committee on Gender Equality and Women Empowerment, Powes Parkop opened the floor for Parliamentary for debate on the status on Women and girls in the country, many leaders aired their views yesterday and even today on the matter.
The Governor for Jiwaka Province, Simon Kaiwi was one of the leaders that supported the idea of Gender Equality and Women Empowerment.
Today, in the floor of parliament, Governor Kaiwi made a public apology to the womenfolk of the country for a GBV case in June 2020 to which the perpetrator was the Governorβs family member.
The Governor was referring to the case of Jennelyn Kennedy who was the victim of Gender Based Violence by her own husband, Bhosip Kaiwa (Governor Kaiwiβs grandson), who is currently serving his life imprisonment sentence.
He extends his apology to the womenfolk in the country and particularly to the family of the late Jennelyn Kennedy.
He reminded the members of the parliament that they are policy makers and they must enact laws that protect the women and girls in the country.
Governor Kaiwi stressed that as leaders, they not just talk and debate on the floor of parliament but they must make an effort to ensure that the laws are enforced and the perpetrators of GBV be brought to justice.
