While petitioning the Government to give the District of Wau-Waria a space in the review table for the Hidden Valley Mine, Wau-Waria Mp, Marsh Narawec has called for the National Executive Council to look into the Minning Act of 1992 to include his district in the discussions and review of the MOA.

He reasoned that it is districts that are very close to the people and face and feel the socio-economic impact of the mining on a daily basis, adding that on Section 3 of the Mining Act of 1992, the new Wau-Waria District is not part of the stakeholders who will be reviewing the mining, Hidden Valley Mining MOA.

The Mp stated that the petitioners pray that the Parliament and Minister for Mining support the call of the people of Wau-Waria to amend Section 3 of the Mining Act to include districts as one of the key stakeholders in any mining projects in their respective districts.

Secondly, he called for the Parliament to make amendments to the Mining Act 1992 for any mining projects MOA or CDA review to include the district’s processing.

The third call was for the Parliament to support the processing and recommend to the Minning Minister, Wake Goi and the Governor for Morobe province to incorporate the following Wau-Waria District into processing in the Eden Valley MOA.
