The people of Western Highlands Province now will have opportunities to work in Australia and New Zealand through the Pacific Australia Labor Mobility (PALM) scheme.

This was announced by Western Highlands Provincial Member Wai Rapa.

Treasury Minister Ian Ling Stucky gave the official endorsement for the province to participate in the scheme last week, in response to Rapa’s request.

The province will now fully participate in the Pacific Australia Labor Mobility (PALM) scheme and the Pacific Labor Facility (PLF), which includes Australia and New Zealand.

The initiative stemmed from Governor Wai Rapa’s desire to have unemployed young Western Highlanders seek jobs in Australia and New Zealand.

Meanwhile Rapa has thanked treasurer Stucky for endorsing Western Highlands Province to participate in the PALM scheme.

Rapa says the Provincial Government was pleased to have achieved this milestone, and the program would provide valuable opportunities for the youths.

He adds that he was establishing more than 25 TVET schools in the province, that is the base-level of the skills workforce he was creating.

Rapa says Australia and New Zealand needed skills workforce, hence in the next few years he would have qualified graduates from different fields from the provinces TVET schools and he was preparing to send as many as possible.
