YOUTHS RAISE INCOME THROUGH INTEGRATED FARMING

Youths in the Lake Ivae Valley in the Laigap district of Enga province are engaging in integrated farming to earn income and improve their living standards.

The 30 youths engaged in the project have piggery and fish ponds and have also included ducks and goats.

Team Leader, Stanely Yapalin told, FM100 News that these animals’ compliment and support each other. The integrated farming project is funded by United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and European Union.

Yapalin said, the youths are tired of tribal fighting and wasting time doing nothing. They want to use the vast land on the fertile Ivae Valley to do farming live a meaningful life.

Yapalin further thanked the UNDP and EU for the funding and skills trainings in farming. It has really provided hope and changed the life style of our youths in the village.

He says they want to be role models for other youths in the district. Farming for income is the way forward for the youths.
