ROUND ONION GROWING WELL IN ENGA PROVINCE

By Mortimer YANGHARRY
Farmers in the Aiyel Valley along the Wapenamanda and Wabag electoral border in Enga Province are growing bulb onion successfully and in abundance with the first harvest to be sold to buyers and the public.
Local farmer and spokesperson Dan Nyia said that Aiyel Valley farmers will sell their surplus harvest at the new Wabag Market for the general public to choose and buy.
He says the local farmers have harvested their cabbage and round onions and will organize for transportation to Wabag Market for sales starting next week.
All the farners from the valley have gathered at their Lukirap village base to support each other ensuring that their harvest reach the point of selling on time.
Some local farmers have ventured into poultry, egg laying and piggery projects while others have worked the land to sell fresh, organic produce to the public and interested business houses.
The people of this area are rebuilding their lives through agriculture after most of their villages were destroyed during the deadliest Wapenamanda tribal fighting conflict.
