Cricket PNG (CPNG), in consultation with Boroko Motors and the CPNG Board Chairman, has made the decision to postpone the start of the Isuzu Men’s T20 Smash 2025 due to recent heavy and consistent rainfall in Port Moresby.

Originally scheduled to begin on Friday, 4 April at Amini Park, the tournament will now be pushed back to May, to ensure player safety and preserve ground conditions for top-level T20 cricket action. At this stage, the revised plan is for the Isuzu Women’s T20 Smash to proceed as scheduled from 25 April to 4 May, followed by the rescheduled Men’s T20 Smash from 9 May onwards.

A new match schedule and calendar of events will be released early next week. The Isuzu T20 Smash is one of PNG’s premier cricket events, bringing together four elite men’s and women’s teams in a double round-robin format that was set to feature 12 matches per division, culminating in an exciting showcase of local cricketing talent at Amini Park.

While the delay is disappointing, the safety and quality of the playing environment remain a top priority. The event continues to enjoy the generous support of Boroko Motors, with the Men’s and Women’s competitions proudly carrying the Isuzu name.

Richard Done, CEO of Cricket PNG, commented on the postponement, saying, “Cricket PNG is disappointed to announce that the Isuzu Men’s T20 Smash event has been postponed until early May. The weather over the last week has forced our hand and the decision was made so we deliver the best cricket under the best conditions for our players and fans. Cricket PNG will provide further information about the revised schedules soon.”

Donovan Brooks, National Sales Manager of Boroko Motors, added, “While it is unfortunate that the Men’s event has been postponed, Boroko Motors is fully supportive of the decision. We are committed to ensuring that both players and fans have the best experience possible.

This decision will allow everyone to enjoy the matches in optimal conditions, and we look forward to the Women’s event starting as planned on April 25.” In the meantime, CPNG is using this opportunity to ensure all preparations are fine-tuned so that both tournaments run smoothly. Staff and stakeholders will continue working behind the scenes to ensure the rescheduled launch is even more impactful.

We thank all our teams, partners, and fans for their understanding and ongoing support. More
updates, including the revised schedule, will be shared early next week.
