Prime Minister’s 2025 Golden Jubilee Oldies Competition was officially launched this week by the Governor for NCD Powes Parkop, at the Sir John Guise Stadium Indoor Complex.
This initiative, spearheaded by Prime Minister James Marape in collaboration with the Basketball Federation of Papua New Guinea (BFPNG), aims to encourage participation among veterans aged 40 and above.
Governor Parkop expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for this initiative, which seeks to re-engage former basketball athletes as well as retired individuals from different sectors.
The launch featured the Prime Minister’s side 40+ competing against the Basketball Legends of 1991 in an energetic and spirited display.
Prime Minister James Marape, a sportsman himself, emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating that sports bring people together and promote healthy lifestyles.
He extends invitation to senior citizens in Port Moresby to come out and participate, not just in basketball but other sports as well.
Meanwhile basic health checks will be offered to seniors participating in the upcoming competitions.
The Prime Minister’s 2025 Golden Jubilee Oldies Competition is scheduled to continue until September 2025
