WABAG District Coffee Growers Cooperative Society Chairman Dan Nyia is encouraging people throughout Enga Province to engage in coffee farming as it is a generational investment towards being economically independent.

Birip Coffee Depot located along the Highlands Highway near the Wapenamanda and Wabag electoral border is currently buying a kilogram of dried coffee bean for K12.00.

Mr Nyia mentioned that every Friday, coffee farmers bring their dried coffee beans to sell at the Birip Coffee Depot, and farmers mostly from Kompiam Ambum, Wapenamanda and Wabag districts bring in their parchment coffee bags to sell.

He also highlighted that a total of 100 dried coffee bags is bought from rural coffee farmers every week which is equivalent to 5,000 kilograms that generates K55,000 for the rural coffee farmers weekly.

He encouraged the people to use the land sitting idle and work on it to plant coffee trees as it is sustainable and a generational economical investment.
