FAMILY DEMANDS INVESTIGATIONS INTO FATAL SHOOTING BY ALLEGED COP

THE immediate family members of 2 innocent boys who were allegedly shot by police in Wau town, are seeking justice for the two innocent lives.

The two were shot at their grandparents home last month and no proper investigation has been done so far.

The two boys were shot on the night of 25th April 2025 at Bogia Compound, Kuranga in Wau, Morobe Province, inside their grandparent’s residence by alleged police officer.

Late Sion Semese age 21 and Benjamin Sariu age 16 related as cousins, were at a nearby buai market when they heard gunshots and ran to their grandparent’s house.

They were shot by the police officer in the premises.

Late Sion Semese ‘s mum who is a single mum and teacher at the Markham Valley Secondary School, on behalf of the family, appealed to the Police Commissioner David Manning to ensure the call for truth, accountability, and justice is served.

She also called on the Wau MP Hon March Narawec, Wau Police Station Commander Inspector Peter Yambun, ACP Northern Command Peter Guinness to work together to ensure justice is served to the innocent lives lost in Wau and welcome the opportunity to work closely with the police and appropriate authorities to restore and uphold law and order in Wau.

Ms Semese said Sion and Benjamin were innocent child who posed no threat to anyone. The unlawful and violent actions of those sworn to protect and serve have caused our family and community immense pain, fear, and confusion.

Late Sion Semese is a student at DODL UNITEC Campus in Lae and Benjamin is a Grade 4 student at the Mariahill Primary School in Wau.

Ms Semese and family now demands,

  • A full and independent investigation into the incident
  • That the officer(s) involved be held criminally and legally accountable
  • Release of the full police report
  • Release of the post-mortem/autopsy report
  • Disclosure of the names and identification of the officer(s) involved

Both were laid to rest on Saturday at their final resting place in Wau.
