PNG JOURNALIST ENHANCE SKILLS THROUGH MOBILE JOURNALISM

THIRTEEN (13) journalists from seven media organisations completed 3-day journalism training from 3rd to the 5th of June at the Lamana Hotel in Port Moresby.
The training is the third Mobile Journalism (MOJO) and social media training that saw participating media organisation received Mobile Journalism or Mojo Kits distributed under the Media Development Initiative (MDI), a long-standing media partnership between PNG
and Australia.
The MoJo kits – each containing the latest smart phone, tripods, recording rigs, professional-grade microphones, and other essential accessories– enable journalists to produce high-quality content on the run and from
virtually anywhere.
During the 3-day training, Mojo specialist, David McMeekin and social media specialist Laura Lauth hosted an open dialogue and hands-on-training to the enthusiastic participants.
The journalists came from three mainstream media, EMTV, PNGFM, Kalang Advertising Limited, ABC International Development, and three church media, PNG Christian Media Network, Laif FM and trinity FM.
The training concluded on Friday June 6th, where 10 Mojo kits were presented to each of the media organisations that participated in the training.
During her remarks, Ms Hare Haro, ABC International Development, Team Leader PNG, said she is pleased to see the enthusiasm from the participants who dedicated their time to harnessing the power of social media to tell compelling stories.
She encouraged the participants to use the kits and training they have received to tell stories that resonate with the whole of Papua New Guinea and help shape its future.
Distinguished guests include, Australian High Commission- Councillor subnational and accountability, Christine Charity, National Broadcasting Managing Director, Mr Kora Nou, Kalang Advertsing Ltd CEO Mr Bill Wartovo, EMTV CEO, Sailas Matoli, and representatives from the church media were present to receive the Mojo Kit on.
The Media Development Initiative (MDI) under the Australian Broadcasting Corporation International Development is a long-term development program that continues to support the role of media in Papua New Guinea.
