POLICE AND FODE HELD LAW AND ORDER AWARENESS PROGRAM

PRINCIPAL of PNG Flexible Open and Distance Education centre, Anthony Rayappan, and Chief Inspector Henry Map from the PNG Royal Constabulary held a special program yesterday (Tuesday, 8th of July) at the Flexible Open Distance Education (FODE) in Port Moresby to amplify the students and teachers about laws and how to stay safe in the city.

Principal Rayappan said it is very important to teach people about laws and safety and explained that schools and police can work together to help everyone be responsible and follow the law.

He also said that if students know about the penalties for breaking the law, they will understand what can happen if they do something wrong.

Chief Inspector Map thanked Rayappan and the staff of the FODE School for inviting him to talk to the students and teachers about important law and order issues.

Chief Insp Map explained the different crime and laws and also explains the consequences of committing a crime, assuring everyone that the police will keep working with schools and communities to help stop crime.

He further explained that drinking alcohol in public and causing trouble can lead to a fine of up to K1000 or a jail sentence of up to three months whilst also emphasising that using illegal drugs can be very serious and can lead to fines, long jail sentences, or even life in prison, with rape charges can mount to 15 years or even for life.

He also talked about family violence, which is addressed by the Family Protection Act adding that people who hurt their family members can be fined or sent to jail, cybercrimes, such as sending harmful messages or doing illegal activities online can lead to long jail sentences or very large fines.

Inspector Henry Map emphasized that it is very important for everyone to follow the law and stay away from trouble.

He said that FODE is a second chance school, and students should take this chance seriously to make a better future for themselves. He thanked the government for supporting FODE and praised Principal Rayappan and his staff for their hard work.

He encouraged students to focus on their studies, stay away from bad activities, and talk to teachers or police if they see something wrong.

Rayappan added that schools and community groups should keep working closely with the police to keep everyone safe.
