COMMANDER of NCD/Central, Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Benjamin Turi, has confirmed the recent arrest and of seven suspects of “Sorcery Accusation Related Violence” case or SARV at Ganai village in Abau District of Central Province.

ACP Turi further confirmed that the arrest of the suspect related to a SARV and arson case that occured two years ago, that resulted in a man losing his life and several houses burnt.

He said after receiving reports from local Moreguina police station, he sought support from the Mobile Squad and the Central Provincial Police Commander for the operation to take place, resulting in the successful aprehension of the seven suspects, amongst them was a female.

He said the suspects are now detained at Sogeri Police Station, and a CID officer from Central is now taking charge of the case.

Commander Turi, while acknowledging the good work done by his officers, also challenged leaders in his command to work with the police so they can serve the people who need police services.

“I had confirmed that six males and one female are now in police custody to be charged accordingly.

The suspects are those who were involved in harboring the main suspects of the SARV case and those who were involved in seriously assaulting a man who died last month at Port Moresby General Hospital.

The other suspect was also arrested for burning the SARV suspect’s house.

We are here to help the people of our command, and we will try our best to help solve their issues.

We were also told that the people were happy to see police in the village to deal with the case that had separated families for some years,” Turi said.

He further added that police will act when information provided to them is accurate because it is very expensive to plan and execute a police operation when information is sketchy and the parties involved are not cooperative with police when they are asked to come forward.

Commander Turi said he was pleased with how those suspects behaved when they were surrounded by the police at around 11 PM in Ganai Village.

The suspects cooperated with the police, who got into the police vehicle and traveled another nine hours back to Port Moresby.

Despite the bad road condition at Bam Village in the Cloudy Bay LLG of Central Province, the four police vehicles forced their way through the muddy and deteriorated road to provide their service in apprehending the suspects.
