3 SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR UOG STUDENT MURDER

THREE suspects have been arrested by police in Goroka earlier this week including the main suspect in relation to the murder of a male 3rd year Business Student of University of Goroka over the weekend.
Minister for Higher Education Research Science Technology and Sports and Unggai Bena MP Kinoka Feo backed by University of Goroka Vice Chancellor Dr Teng Waninga commended Police in Goroka for the swift response in apprehending the main suspect involved in the murder yesterday morning.
According to police report the cause of death was in retaliation to a traffic accident caused by the vehicle the deceased was in.
Police further reported that the owner of the other vehicle attacked the victim and the other passengers unfortunately killing the student.
Eastern Highlands Provincial Police Commander Chief Superintendent John Kale has appealed to the public to refrain from spreading misleading information on social media creating anxiety as police continue investigations.
PPC Kale said the suspects have been detained at the Goroka Police station and will appear before court on tomorrow Thursday.
He clarified that there was 2 incidents committed in relation to the murder, one motor traffic offence and alcohol related which police are currently investigating.
Meanwhile, Minister for Higher Education Research Science Technology and Sports Kinoka Feo in a media conference condemned the killing of the 3rd year Business student at the University of Goroka.
Mr Feo who is also a local MP in Eastern Highlands condemned the killing “in the strongest terms” and expressed frustrations in the manner in which the student was murdered.
Mr Feo said the matter was an isolated incident that occurred off campus that should have been reported to police both parties drove past the police station that night without reporting the incident.
He said the matter was in relation to a traffic road incident and alcohol related that should have been reported at the police station but both parties took matter into their own hands which resulted in the “unfortunate death” of the student.
Mr Feo said law and order is in place to deal with such issues and police stations is the appropriate place to report on crimes and law and order issues.
He also expressed concerns over the irresponsible drinking habits of alcohol consumers and selling of high percentage of alcohol content beverages by manufacturers without proper consideration on the lives of people.
He thanked police in Goroka including CID investigators for responding promptly following his request to the Police Minister for the immediate apprehension of the main suspect to ensure justice is served and the suspects face the full force of the law.
Minister also appealed to the family of the deceased and the students to respect the law process as police investigations continue into the matter.
University of Goroka Vice Chancellor Dr Teng Waninga also commended Goroka Police for their efforts in arresting the main suspect.
He said with this week being the final week of registration the students have practised maturity to allow the justice process to take its course m, hense normal classes is expected to commence next week.
