MEMBER for Nawaeb, Hon. Theo Pelgen has issued a strong and unequivocal condemnation following the brutal killing of four innocent Morobeans in Lae this week.

The incident, which occurred at Kapiak Street, 1 Mile, has been described by MP Pelgen as “senseless and barbaric,” and a tragic reflection of violence that has no place in modern society.

“LAE CITY has no place for such people,” said MP Pelgen. “Police must come down hard on the perpetrators. Anyone found harboring them must be removed from Morobe Province immediately.”

MP Pelgen has thrown his full support behind the calls made by Deputy Prime Minister Hon. John Rosso and Our Pati Leader Hon. Rainbo Paita for the immediate eviction of those responsible, including individuals closely connected to the incident.

While preliminary reports suggest the violence may have been triggered by allegations of theft, MP Pelgen emphasized that “killing people in broad daylight is unacceptable under any circumstance.”

He commended the efforts of the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary in containing the situation, but urged swift arrests and severe penalties for all involved.

“Lae is a multicultural and multi-ethnic city. There is no place here for barbaric actions or those who seek to divide our communities through violence,” he said.

“I will also support the introduction and passing of Vagrancy Act in Parliament soon as it will act a a monitoring mechanism to ensure genuine movement of persons from Province to Province.”

MP Pelgen reaffirmed his commitment to peace, unity, and justice for all Morobeans, and called on community leaders and residents to stand together in rejecting violence and upholding the rule of law.
