BSP TURNED OFF EFTPOS BALANACE INQUIRY FEATURE

BSP Financial Group Limited (BSP Limited) has turned off the balance inquiry feature on its EFTPOS machines as a temporary safety measure.
BSP says the move is aimed at protecting customers from rising card fraud and misuse. The change came into effect last week, Tuesday, August 12.
In an appearance on FM100 Nasfund Talkback show last week, BSP’s Head of Retail Branch Peter Komon says the bank made the decision after seeing a rise in stolen EFTPOS devices, which could be used for card cloning and checking account balances.
The measure is not permanent. BSP says it will review the situation once all customers receive their new chip cards.
Customers are encouraged to use mobile and internet banking or visit a BSP branch or ATM to check their balances. The bank is also working with police to investigate EFTPOS theft and fraud.
