STRONG WINDS DESTROYS LOCAL WARD IN GAZELLE DISTRICT

SEVERE strong wind weather has left a trail of destruction across the Gazelle Peninsula on Saturday particularly at Rababat ward in the Livuan Reimber LLG in the Gazelle District.

Described by witnesses as a massive funnel over the sea, the strong wind has severely damaged homes along the coast from Rabak section to Vunagamata and up to Tapulpul and part of Towakudum area.

Entire roofs have been torn and flown up to the sky leaving some families without shelter, families have been left exposed, and food gardens have been completely flattened.

FM100 was on site and witnessed the damages caused, and presented the evidence of the damages to the Provincial Disaster and Emergency Office.

Speaking to the Director for Disaster and Emergency in East New Britain, Mr. Donald Tokunai, he had taken noted of the situation confirming a team from the disaster office was dispatched to the site to assess the damages caused and also to coordinate an immediate response to those affected,

With continuous rainfall since last night, the situation has become very hard for those who are affected, and the community has been advised to look out for each other at this time.
