ST Paul Primary school in Gerehu in the Nation’s Capital celebrated their pre Independence Celebration today.

This year’s celebration was different, students displayed a re-enactment of the coming of the explorers and missionaries to PNG, a formation of PNG letters, and also the lowering of the Australian Flag and raising of the PNG flag which is a significant event of the Nations independence.

Head Teacher Mr Gilbert Anis told Kalang News that enactment performance was a kind reminder and a lesson to the young students of what happened back in 1975.

Mr Anis says, the main idea of the event was to reset the mindset of the future leaders by looking back at what was done then and to move forward, emphasising on inspiring the young generation how to bring the country moving forward.

Mr Anis also highlighted that the students will close tomorrow for two weeks of holidays to allow them to be part of the Independence activities and upcoming anniversary celebrations.

He also encouraged the students to take care of themselves during the holiday period and to celebrate safely, and come back fresh in Term 4 with mock exams for Grade 8s and also National Examination later in the term.

Mr Anis also thanked his staff for organising a successful pre- Independence celebration.
