TPA LAUNCHED NATIONAL TOURISM POLICY

LETHISA KOLOKOL
THE PNG Tourism Promotion Authority (TPA) finally launched a National Tourism Policy 2025-2045 after operating without one for the last 30 years.
Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Belden Nama officially launched the policy yesterday at APEC House in Port Moresby following a one-year nationwide consultation cross the public and private sectors, academia, non-government organisations and community representatives.
The new policy focuses in 15 key thematic areas, bringing stakeholders from various sectors to work together to drive Tourism in the country.
This thematic area recognises the rights of resource owners of those in rural areas in PNG.
TPA CEO, Eric Mossman Uvovo said the new policy is a roadmap for transformation, celebrating the rich cultural diversity, pristine natural environment and authentic adventure experiences, and also provide the strategic direction needed to position PNG as a leading tourism nation.
A key focus area that has been included in the key policy is the empowerment of resource custodians which is often overlooked by various governments in the past.
