THE creation of the Oceania Professional League is rooted in the idea to bridge the gap between the Melanesian countries, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Fiji with professional football nations such as New Zealand, New Caledonia and Tahiti.

President of Oceania Football Confederation, Lambert Matlock told the media this week that the that the idea of Pro league was a dream but since he took office as president of OFC, he pushed for that dream to become a reality.

He said with support from the PNGFA president, John Kapi Natto, the idea will soon take its root come January, 2026.

Mr Matlock is in Port Moresby for the series of the MSG Prime Minster’s Cup.
