EDUCATION SECTOR RECEIVES AN INCREASED BUDGET ALLOCATION

THE Education sector has been allocated a budget allocation of K609.5million, an increased 11.3% or K4935 million.


Treasury Minister Ian Ling stucky when tabling the 2026 Budget appropriation in parliament today, pointed out that the government will continue to support and invest in Human Capital in Education and Health sector just as it supports physical capital.


Minister Stuckey says, the funding included K251 million funding increase or 11% increase in teachers’ salaries, lifting spending to K2532 million in 2026 and is aimed at preventing further teacher’s salary over runs.


In addition, Minister Stuckey says the Government Tuition Subsidy and project fees support will increase from K860 million to K905 million, and TESAs and HELP, an increase from K152million to K157 million.

Focussing in security with growth, through the budget, the government continues to invest in the education sector, focussing on strategic areas, aiming for increased intakes in all university, schools of Excellence meeting high level standards, TVET and Trade Skills Education revamped with increased intakes, Higher Standards of Teachers in Primary, High Schools and Secondary Education, Increased Nursing College intakes to support capacity in provincial and district hospitals and Business and Technical Colleges revamped and transitioned to University Status.

The 2026 National Budget under the theme “Security with Growth” is the 12th Budget or Supplementary Budget presented by the Treasurer Ian Ling Stuckey today at the National Parliament.

Minister Stuckey says, the Marape-Rosso government will continue and is committed to Budget Repair with the aim of achieving a surplus by 2027 and the option to repay all debt by 2034.
