KIUNGA Secondary School (KSS), one of the founding high schools in the North Fly District, celebrated the graduation of its 26th batch of Grade 12 students.

A total of 138 students, 44 young women and 94 young men proudly received their certificates after successfully completing their upper-secondary studies.

For the 2025 school year, KSS had an enrolment of 851 students (523 males and 328 females), from which the 138 graduands were drawn and celebrated in today’s ceremony.

Principal Mr. Jebol Iowa congratulated the students, reminding them that graduation represents both a conclusion and a fresh beginning.

“There is excitement for the new chapter ahead, and sadness in leaving behind a stage of life that has shaped you. Some may feel regret for missed opportunities, others joy and fulfilment for what they have achieved,” he said.

“This ceremony signifies a major crossroads. For those who may not move on to tertiary institutions, options such as FODE and vocational training are available, I encourage you to pursue them. For those continuing in mainstream education, strive for excellence, remembering that it stems from discipline and a positive mindset.”

Western Provincial Administrator Mr. Robert Alphones Kaiyun, a KSS alumnus delivered the keynote address. He reflected on the students’ journey and the road ahead.

“As someone who once walked these same paths, I understand the challenges you have overcome. The journey has not been easy, but you now possess the knowledge, skills, and values needed to succeed,” he said.

Mr. Kaiyun reminded graduates that further learning, personal growth, and sustainable development await them. He outlined Western Province’s key development priorities: Health, Education, Economic Empowerment, Law and Justice, and Enabling Infrastructure.

He also announced that Western Province is preparing to introduce the Standard-Based Education 1-6-6 structure in 2026, which will remove Grade 8 and Grade 10 exams.

Speaking directly to the graduands, he said: “You are not simply receiving a certificate; you are being equipped with the tools to help shape the future of Western Province. The world is filled with opportunities, grasp them. Be bold, creative, and entrepreneurial. Use your education to support development, promote peace, and advocate for the rights and needs of our people.”

He encouraged the graduates to uphold strong values, remain eager to learn, welcome new ideas, and use their education to contribute positively to their communities.

To students who will continue their studies, he urged commitment, goal setting, and resilience.

He also appealed to parents and guardians: “Support your children. Invest in their education so they can secure a future and, in time, support you. Help us build the human capital of Western Province.”

Mr. Kaiyun acknowledged the dedication of teachers and support staff for their role in developing the province’s future leaders.

He ended with a message of optimism: “The world presents many challenges, but it also offers countless opportunities. Use them wisely, and hold fast to the values that have brought you this far.”
