AIR NIUGINI RECORDS MAJOR IMPROVEMENT WITH ONLY 43 FLIGHTS DISTRUPTED

AIR Niugini’s Officer-in-Charge, Captain Samiu Taufa, says thousands of Christmas travellers are getting home on time following a major improvement in flight operations during the peak holiday period.
Between December 14 and 22, the airline operated 575 out of 618 planned flights, reducing disruptions to just 43 services and achieving a 93 percent operation rate.
Captain Taufa says the improvement has brought relief to families travelling for Christmas, with flight crews and ground staff working extended hours to ensure safe and timely departures during the busiest time of the year. He says the airline’s focus remains on minimising delays and avoiding the severe disruptions being reported at overseas airports.
While some flights were affected by bad weather and aircraft maintenance, Captain Taufa says replacement aircraft were deployed as quickly as possible. Flooding at Wewak Airport accounted for ten cancellations, but operations have since stabilised.
Air Niugini has confirmed that some tickets are still available for last-minute Christmas travel and also Passengers are advised to arrive at the airport around three hours before departure to allow for smooth check-in as peak travel continues.
