2025 DEFINING MOMENT FOR PNG: PM
THE year 2025 was a defining moment in the nation’s history, it marked 50 years since Papua New Guinea became a sovereign nation.
Prime Minister Marape says, 2025 was a golden jubilee year that invited deep reflection not only on how the nation has come but also on the responsibility the nation carries in to the next phase of the nation.
In reflecting on the achievement of year 2025, PM Marape says, despite global inflation, rise in fuel and food prices and supply chains disruptions, PNG economy demonstrates resilience and discipline and productivity in 2025.
He further says, his current government delivered the largest tax relieve package in the history removing GST in 13 essential household items and lifting the treasury threshold to K20,000, sacrificing more than K300 million in government revenue to ease the cost of living burdens on families.
The Prime Minister says this outcomes shows that the government fiscal reforms are working, and gives confidence that the government can continue to fund essential services.
