CIS COMMISSIONER OPENS 2026 WITH VISION FOR EXCELLENCE AND COMMUNITY IMPACT

THE Correctional Services Institution today started of their year with the opening parade at the Bomana Correctional Institution. Acting Commissioner Benard Nepo delivered an inspiring message to mark the start of 2026, when addressing CIS officers, stakeholders and visiting partners, Commissioner Nepo reflected on the department’s achievements and outlined a forward-looking vision for the year ahead.
He thanked the officers for their dedication and families for their support, acknowledging that the collective efforts of CIS officers have made the service effective.
The Commissioner also extended appreciation to international partners, including representatives from the Australian High Commission whose support in 2025 played a significant role in the department’s success.
Commissioner Nepo highlighted the importance of strong leadership, noting that setting a good example from the top down is key to building a committed and effective workforce. He also spoke about ongoing initiatives, including research and community outreach programs and introduced the department’s new Smart Patient Concept a forward-looking approach aimed at strengthening performance across all ranks.
As CIS begins the new year, Commissioner Nepo emphasized that innovation, dedication, and leadership will continue to drive the department’s mission to make a positive impact on communities nationwide.
